Forget Yahoo! what about flickr!!

If Microsoft succeed in taking over Yahoo! I am mostly not bothered as there are alternatives to most of Yahoo!’s services. The thing that worries me (not in a loosing sleep way, mind) is that Flickr will be destroyed. Microsoft don’t want to take over Yahoo! just to have another company in their portfolio, they will want to integrate its services with theirs and probably re brand them all. At the minute Flickr is a very well laid out site and quite minimalistic despite the large array of features it has.In this regard it is still very different looking to Yahoo!’s other sites. Now add Microsoft’s style of site to this and you have a mess, even worse if they go down the MSN branding route. Another problem is that the MSN sites and MSN messenger carry adverts, whose to say that Microsoft will just be happy to make a small amount of money they make on the Flickr pro accounts and leave it at that rather than plastering it will ads to make a bit more. I hope Microsoft loose this battle but failing that, that they think carefully before making any changes to the services they acquire.

Well hello there!!

I haven’t written on here in a while. I have given up on the redesign I started on the 12th Dec, at least for now. Since then I have put a huge number of photos on flickr which you can get to HERE.

Stay tuned to see if I actually begin posting again.

Blocked up and Omagh

I was off work sick today, so have been watching friends and the news all day (which grows tired very quickly).RANT: Why do the BBC insist on sending people from London to cover news stories? Today is the verdict in the trial of one of the people on trial for the Omagh bombing (Which was nearly 10 years ago now!) and instead of using one of the many BBC Northern Ireland presenters they have sent some random presenter I have never seen before from London. I would kind of understand them sending a main recognisable presenter as a familiar face but this guy is new.He couldn’t even pronounce Omagh correctly so how can I expect him to have a clue about  NIre’s complex past? This is an example of how London centric the BBC still is, hopefully with the new BBC Manchester and BBC Scotland buildings this will change.

Andrew meets the ‘real’ world

I am now 3.5 weeks into job at Roke Manor Research Ltd. near Romsey in Hampshire. I am living in Southampton and am going to Above Bar Church (no it’s not above that kind of bar). I will hopefully get some photos up of various things that I got up to during the summer (my last student length summer ever).

9 Years of websiting

I realised today that it has been 9 years since I started my 1st website. Back in 1998 I started up a Geocities website (in the times before Yahoo! had taken them over). It was an eclectic mix of technology news and personal views. Really it was pretty poor, at least what I remember of it (can’t find it on WayBack Machine). That is all…

Matthew Howell

Matthew Howell
Matthew was in my form class up to 6th form at Dalriada and he lead the Scripture Union in our upper 6th. He also played a major part in bringing me to salvation through Jesus Christ and his servant attitude taught me much.
His death although a great loss has lost its sting as he takes his place in the presence of God.
See you soon Matthew.
